A round of applause broke out after the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners on Thursday narrowly approved a measure to declare the county a Second Amendment sanctuary.
The Ionia County BOC unanimously voted at its Tuesday, Feb. 11, meeting to pass a resolution declaring the county as a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County.”

Gun rights supporters crowded the Alcona County courthouse this morning, hoping to see their county declared a 2nd amendment sanctuary. While there is no legality behind this title, it does show that the county supports gun rights for their citizens.
Was announced on Facebook through an attendee of the meeting and we were supplied with a copy of the proposed resolution. We have been informed that the resolution was passed. The vote was 3-2 Cory Barr and John Shiner voted no on the motion.
In response, an alternative resolution was approved that the Monroe County Board of Commissioners would “uphold the U.S. and Michigan constitutions.”
On the 23rd of January, 2020 the county commissioners of Mackinac County, Michigan sign a resolution that supported the constitution and the second amendment.
