Muscatine County is Iowa’s 34th 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County

0

On February 7, 2022, Muscatine County, Iowa became the 34th county in the state to pass a resolution affirming support for the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. The resolution, known as a Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution, states that the county will uphold the constitutional right of citizens to keep and bear arms, and that no county resources will be used to infringe upon that right.

The resolution was passed as a response to efforts by some lawmakers to impose restrictions on gun ownership, including the introduction of so-called “red flag” laws, which allow authorities to temporarily confiscate firearms from individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others. Supporters of the Second Amendment argue that such laws infringe upon citizens’ right to bear arms, and that they do not effectively address the root causes of gun violence.

Muscatine County’s decision to become a Second Amendment Sanctuary is a victory for gun rights advocates and supporters of the Constitution. It affirms the county’s commitment to upholding the Second Amendment and sends a clear message to lawmakers that attempts to infringe upon citizens’ rights will not be tolerated.
