On April 5, 2021, Monroe County, Ohio Commissioners passed a resolution in support of the Second Amendment. The resolution passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION #19-21
Whereas, Article XV, Section 7 of the Ohio Constitution states “every person or appointed to any office under this state, before entering upon the discharge of its duties, shall take an oath or affirmation to support the Constitution of the United States, and of this State, and also an oath of office.” and
Whereas, Monroe County Commissioners, Mitchell Schumacher, L. William Bolon and Diane R. Burkhart have each taken an oath and believe it to be binding upon them morally, ethically, and legally: and
Whereas, Ohio Revised Code Section 9.68 states that “the individual right to keep and bear arms, being a fundamental, individual right that predates the United States Constitution and Ohio Constitution” and is “a constitutional protected right in every part of Ohio,” Ohio revised code 9.68 further states the Ohio General Assembly “also finds and declares that a person for law-abiding people to protect themselves, their families, and others from intruders and attackers without fear of prosecution or civil action for acting in self-defense of themselves or others.”, and
Whereas, the Second Amendment of the United States reads, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed”. and
Whereas, Article 1, Section 4 of the United States Constitution reads, “The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security.
Whereas, the legislature of the State of Ohio is the governmental body which enacts laws and regulations securing and protecting the rights of the residents of the State of Ohio, we, representing the residents and voters of Monroe County, Ohio encourage the state legislature consider establishing Ohio as a Sanctuary State, which would insure all of the rights of our citizens the full protection of the Constitution of the State of Ohio, reinforcing the Constitution of the United States of America. As our Constitutional rights arc threatened on the national level, our state needs to take a stand to ensure our residents have the confidence the State of Ohio and its elected officials will support all rights under the Constitution of the State of Ohio and defend the rights of our citizens as proclaimed in all Amendments of the Constitution of the United States of America. We are in support of House Bill 62 that was proposed by Michael Loychik from Trumbull County, Ohio.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Board of Commissioners of Monroe County, Ohio hereby expresses the intent to preserve, protect and defend the Second Amendment Sanctuary through any and all lawful means in order to uphold the rights of the citizens of Monroe County on this 5th day of April 2021.
