On May 10, 2021, Hamilton County, Nebraska Commissioners made a proclamation declaring the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The proclamation was signed by all five of the district commissioners. HAMILTON COUNTY PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms; and
WHEREAS, Article 1-1 of the Nebraska State Constitution guarantees “the right to keep and bear arms for security or defense of self, family, home, and others, and for lawful common defense, hunting, recreational use, and all other lawful purposes” and states that this right “shall not be denied or infringed by the state or any subdivision thereof:” and
WHEREAS, The State of Nebraska has protected the right of all Nebraska residents to open carry and conceal carry; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska and Hamilton County will stand up against federal overreach and attempts to regulate gun ownership and use in the Good Life; and
WHEREAS, The White House and U.S. Congress have announced their intention to pursue measures that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms; and
WHEREAS, Pete Ricketts, Governor of Nebraska, has declared Nebraska a “Second Amendment Sanctuary” state; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska and Hamilton County will continue to take any necessary step to defend our right to keep and bear arms,
NOW THEREFORE, The Board of Commissioners of Hamilton County, Nebraska DO HEREBY PROCLAIM Hamilton County Nebraska as a SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY COUNTY
And hereby urge all citizens to take due note of the designation.
