MOORESVILLE TOWN COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO. 15-2021
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROTECTION OF RIGHTS TO BEAR ARMS
WHEREAS, the Town of Mooresville maintains a strong commitment to supporting and protecting the rights and liberties guaranteed to its residents under the Constitutions of the United States and State of Indiana.
WHEREAS, the Second Amendment to the United States constitution states “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
WHEREAS, Article I, Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution states “The people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the State.”
WHEREAS, the Town of Mooresville opposes the adoption of any law, ordinance, rule, regulation, governmental action, or other similar restriction intended to limit and infringe upon the Constitutional Rights of residents of the Town of Mooresville to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the United States and Indiana Constitutions.
IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Mooresville
that:
1. The Town of Mooresville, Indiana is hereby declared to be a “Second Amendment Sanctuary.”
2. The Town of Mooresville supports and intends to protect the rights granted and guaranteed to its residents under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution.
3. The Town of Mooresville intends to oppose and prevent the expenditure of any public funds for purposes serving to promote the unconstitutional infringement upon any Mooresville resident’s right to keep and bear arms.
RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Mooresville Indiana, on this 4th day of May, 2021.
