RESOLUTION NO: 2021-24
“Second Amendment Preservation County”
WHERE AS, the Constitution of the United States of America is the supreme law of our nation; and
WHERE AS, the Second Amendment to the Constitution states, “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”; and
WHERE AS, The Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff recognize that the Constitution of the United States was formed to serve the people of the United States of America and as such the people of Park County. The Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff support the purpose in forming the Constitution of the United States which provides “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America;” and
WHERE AS, The Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff harken back to and recognize the words set forth in the Declaration of Independence as provides wise guidance in the implementation of governance in Park County. We adhere to and support that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness;” and
WHERE AS, the Constitution of the State of Wyoming in Article 1, Section 24 states, “The right of citizens to bear arms in the defense of themselves and the state shall not be denied;” and
WHERE AS, the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms is guaranteed as an individual right under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America and under the Constitution of the State of Wyoming; and
WHERE AS, the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms for the defense of Life, Liberty and Property is regarded as an inalienable right by the citizens of Park County, Wyoming; and
WHERE AS, the citizens of Park County, Wyoming, have a historical and cultural relationship with firearms for economic, recreational, hunting, and shooting purposes conducted within Park County as allowed under the United States and Wyoming Constitutions; and
WHERE AS, it is the desire of the Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff to declare their support for the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America and Article 1, Section 24 of the Constitution of Wyoming protecting citizens’ inalienable and individual right to keep and bear arms; and
WHERE AS, the members of the Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff took an oath to support and defend the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Wyoming; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Park County Board of Commissioners and the Park County Sheriff strongly support the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America and Article 1, Section 24 of the Constitution of the State of Wyoming and that the Board and Sheriff strongly believe that it is an inalienable right of the citizens of Park County to keep and bear arms for the defense of life, liberty and property; and
NOW, FURTHER, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to defend the rights and liberties of the citizens of Park County, the Park County Board of County Commissioners hereby declares Park County, Wyoming a “Second Amendment Preservation County.”
