Constitution on an American Flag with a gun and bullets in the foreground

On July 21, 2020, the local chapter of California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA) / Shasta County Gun Owners (SCGO) attended the Shasta County Board of Supervisors (BOS) meeting to introduce into the record and for Board consideration a local Second Amendment (2A) resolution. This resolution was authored by the chapter and reviewed by a CRPA leader and attorney.

Because our BOS chambers were closed (due to SARS COV2) we read the resolution from the lobby area of the county building. During multiple follow-up BOS meetings, many citizens requested and even demanded that our BOS discuss and adopt the Resolution. That Board never put the Resolution on the agenda. Eventually, our officials decided (in a discussion that was not on the agenda) to NEVER allow any 2A Resolution from our SCGO group to be heard again!

You can see that decision at the video meeting from May 25, 2021, at minute marker 06 hours 17 minutes and 50 seconds. The clip is about 13 minutes long:

For the March 23, 2021, BOS meeting and without public input or knowledge, some county officials wrote up their own 2A Resolution which copied the 2A verbatim, followed by “The Board adopts this Resolution in support of the Second Amendment”. The Board Chair pulled the item from the agenda due to the shooting that occurred in Colorado. Their Resolution was empty and had no additional protections for the citizens.

We at the SCGO / CRPA chapter decided to put on hold resubmitting a follow-up Resolution as our BOS majority (Moty, Rickert, and Chimenti) are under a current recall effort (recallshasta.org). Once the recall is done and we have a more favorable BOS, we at SCGO/CRPA will attempt to get a 2A Resolution passed.
