UNION COUNTY, GEORGIA RESOLUTION R-2021-01

A RESOLUTION OF THE SOLE COMMISSIONER OF UNION COUNTY. FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING THE SECOND AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES

Whereas, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states in part that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”; and 

Whereas, the Georgia Constitution of 1983 states in Article I. Section 1. Paragraph VIII, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, but the General Assembly shall have the power to prescribe the manner in which arms may be borne”; and

Whereas, the right of citizens to bear arms, as stated in both the United States Constitution and the Georgia Constitution, is a fundamental right that should be protected to the greatest degree possible; and

Whereas, the Commissioner and Sheriff of Union County wish, by adopting this Resolution, to express their support for the rights of citizens under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article I. Section I. Paragraph VIII of the Georgia Constitution. and urge the Governor and members of the General Assembly to take no action which would violate the freedoms guaranteed in both Constitutions. 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the virtue of the authority vested in the Commissioner of Union County and the Sheriff of Union County, that they hereby express their strong support for the rights of citizens under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, and that they further call upon the Governor and members of the General Assembly to ensure any legislation adopted now or in the future respects and supports these rights of all citizens.
