A RESOLUTION DECLARING TOWNS COUNTY AS A SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY

WHEREAS, the Commissioner and Sheriff of Towns County realize that the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is under full assault and the threat to the framework for our basic freedoms and democracy constitutes a clear and present danger; and

WHEREAS, the Commissioner and Sheriff of Towns County realize legislation identified as SB281 introduced into the 2019-2020 session of the Georgia General Assembly, is an infringement on the rights of law-abiding Towns County citizens to keep and bear arms; and

WHEREAS, the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads, “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” is unambiguous and needs no interpretation; and

WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Towns County took an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and reaffirms his commitment to that oath; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff of Towns County took an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Georgia and vows his commitment to that oath; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Towns County expect their GOD given rights as written in the Constitution of the United States to be protected and defended against tyranny; and

WHEREAS, the Commissioner and Sheriff of Towns County publicly express opposition to any law that would unconstitutionally prohibit or restrict the rights of the law abiding citizens of Towns County to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Commissioner and the Sheriff of Towns County, the United States Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land, the Second Amendment is contained therein, and hereby declare Towns County to be a Sanctuary for the same.

SO RESOLVED, in lawful assembly, this 16th day of February, 2021.
