RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION DECLARING THE COUNTY OF MONMOUTH A SECOND AMENDMENT LAWFUL GUN OWNER COUNTY
WHEREAS, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” and
WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey was the first state to ratify the Bill of Rights, including the right to keep and bear arms, and the New Jersey Supreme Court has recognized it as fundamental right of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders desires to uphold its oath to the Constitution, and to express its deep commitment to it, to the Bill of Rights and the freedoms guaranteed thereunder; and
WHEREAS, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders desires to express its opposition to any proposed law that infringes on any right protected under the Constitution and Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment; and
WHEREAS, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders desires to express its intent to comply with all relevant federal and state laws, while also standing with the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and all natural rights guaranteed under its protections, including the Second Amendment, and to use such legal means at its disposal to protect all rights of its citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Monmouth hereby expresses its intent to uphold the rights of all citizens of the County of Monmouth, including those rights protected under the Second Amendment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Monmouth hereby declares its intent to express opposition to unconstitutional restrictions on the rights of citizens, including those rights protected under the Second Amendment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Monmouth shall be deemed a “Second Amendment Lawful Gun Owner County”
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk forward a certified true copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of New Jersey, Monmouth County Legislative Delegation, Monmouth County Congressional Delegation, Monmouth County municipalities, and all other Boards of Chosen Freeholders.
