RESOLUTION  NO. 5-2-20

A RESOLUTION OF THE HENRY COUNTY, TENNESSEE, BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS IN SUPPORT OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION AND ARTICLE 1, SECTION 26 OF THE TENNESSEE CONSTITUTION

WHEREAS, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”; and

WHEREAS, Article 1, Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution states “That the citizens of this state have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime”; and

WHEREAS, the rights afforded by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article 1, Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution are in the best interest of the citizens of Henry County, Tennessee, and such rights are deserving of support and protection;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Henry County, Tennessee, assembled in regular session on this the 18th day of February, 2020, a majority or more of the membership concurring that said Board hereby declares its support of the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article 1, Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Board of Commissioners of Henry County, Tennessee urges its elected representatives and other officials serving at all levels of local, state, and federal government to support, protect, and defend the rights afforded to the citizens by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and Article 1, Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is authorized and directed to mail a copy of this Resolution to Henry County’s representatives in the Tennessee General Assembly and the United States Congress; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a true copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Commission record of this date.
