RESOLUTION NO 2020-04 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AND DEFENSE OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION AND ARTICLE 1, SECTION 32 OF THE INDIANA CONSTITUTION
WHEREAS, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”; and
WHEREAS, Article 1, Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution provides that “The people shall have the right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the state”, and that “The military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power”; and
WHEREAS, any unconstitutional attempts to infringe upon said rights are anathema to the establishment of our country as a constitutional republic and a government of laws rather than of men;

1. That at no time shall it adopt any rule or ordinance that violates or infringes upon the rights of its citizens to bear arms in violation of the Constitutions of the United States and of the State of Indiana.
2. That at all times it will defend the people’s right to bear arms as established by the United States Supreme Court, and that at all times it will adhere to the limitations of I.C. 35-47-11.1-2.
