SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) — Over the past couple of weeks, dozens of counties in Kentucky have declared themselves as second amendment sanctuary counties. On Tuesday, the Allen County fiscal court voted 6-0 to pass the resolution.
“Gun control is a touchy subject, because you’ve got people that are related to victims of gun crimes. But what if that person would have had a fire arm of their own and they had proper training and they could’ve killed their assailant in self-defense and they would still be here? You’ve kinda got to look at it that way. Again, restricting gun rights to law abiding citizens just makes us more vulnerable to criminals,” said Mason Whitlow, Kentucky United Warren County Lead.
The Allen County Fiscal Court passed a resolution Tuesday declaring the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary County.
The passing of the resolution establishes that the county will uphold the second amendment rights and that it will oppose any infringement on the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
“People value their guns, I looked on the internet and 42% of the people in Kentucky own guns. And that’s registered gun, so I’m sure there are a lot more than that,” said Allen County Judge Executive, Dennis Harper. “And people want to be able to protect their family, they want to be able to hunt. And they don’t want people coming to take their guns. And when you hear things like what’s going on in Virginia it scares people and they want their second amendment protected.”
“It was so important to the people that wrote the bill of rights that they made it our second amendment. Not the 10th, not the 9th, they made it our second and I feel like it’s important for us to uphold the constitution. I do think there does need to be some sort of gun laws,” said Traci Peppers, who supports the resolution. “Obviously we don’t want convicted felons, we don’t want murders who have been out of prison getting a hold of guns. So I do think there should be gun laws, I just don’t think there should be gun laws infringing upon the rights of individuals who are lawful citizens.” … to read the full article click here
