Simpson Fiscal Court unanimously approved a resolution declaring Simpson County a Second Amendment Sanctuary at its meeting on Tuesday.
The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives the people the right to keep and bear arms.
The resolution states that fiscal court expresses its intent to uphold the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of Simpson County and that fiscal court declares its intent to oppose infringement on the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
Kentucky United Simpson County obtained signatures from local residents on a petition seeking the resolution.
About a half dozen counties in Kentucky have already adopted Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolutions.
A rally in support of the Second Amendment was planned in Frankfort on Tuesday.
