The Jasper County Board Wednesday followed the Effingham County Board’s lead in passing a resolution opposing restrictions on guns. The resolution resolves that if the State of Illinois “infringes upon the inalienable rights granted by the Second Amendment, Jasper County shall become a ‘sanctuary county’ for all firearms unconstitutionally prohibited by the government of the State of Illinois, in that Jasper County will prohibit its employees from enforcing the unconstitutional actions of the state government.”
There was discussion on whether another word could be used rather than “sanctuary” but, eventually, it was left in the resolution. Board member Fehrenbacher was not present for the meeting, but the 11 members present each voted in favor of the resolution.
